Disposable general purpose shoe covers protect against contaminants in a wide range of environments and applications. They have nonskid bottoms with PVC (polyvinyl chloride) tracks to increase traction and safety. Disposable general purpose shoe covers are typically made of lightweight, breathable materials like polypropylene. Polypropylene has excellent resistance to water, chemicals and abrasion. Shoe covers may also come with seams that are serged or heat sealed. Serged seams work well in dry environments, while heat-sealed seams work well in wet environments.
Insoles, liners, foot guards and foot warmers reduce fatigue, absorb shock, insulate against cold temperatures and relieve pain in the legs and back. Liners typically have nylon surfaces that resist abrasion and wear with foam, gel or polyurethane layers that provide cushion and shock absorption. Insoles, liners and foot warmers are molded to feet for foot stability and comfort. They provide arch support and prevent foot, knee and back injuries. Anti-fatigue overshoes are worn by workers who stand or walk for extended periods of time. They are designed to provide comfort, absorb shock and reduce injury. Overshoes are worn over regular work shoes and have strong soles that provide a good grip and resist oil and water. The soles are typically made of two layers of durable, cushioning materials like PVC (polyvinyl chloride) and foam.
Plain-toe general purpose work boots protect workers' feet in nonhazardous, general purpose applications. They do not have steel toes that protect against compression and injury from falling objects. Plain-toe general purpose work boots are typically made of durable, flexible materials like PVC (polyvinyl chloride) and can resist water, certain chemicals, contaminants, abrasion and punctures. The soles are also treaded to provide a good grip on wet, dry and slippery surfaces.
Steel-toe general purpose work boots protect workers' feet in nonhazardous, general purpose applications. They are typically made of strong leather with either rubber or polyurethane soles. Steel plates in the toes protect against compression and injury from falling objects but reduce the boot's flexibility. Steel-toe general purpose work boots resist abrasion, cuts, punctures, water and some chemicals. They also have treaded soles to provide a good grip on wet, dry and slippery surfaces.
Traction overshoes offer increased grip on slippery floors, turf, snow and ice. They help prevent slipping and tripping accidents and also protect shoes from rain, snow and salt damage. Traction overshoes come in two types. The first type fastens over shoes with hook-and-loop straps. The second type is a seamless, full-shoe design that is waterproof. The soles of both types have either deep PVC (polyvinyl chloride) cleats or metal studs that increase traction on slippery floors, snow and ice.
Socks absorb sweat and provide a comfortable, protective layer between workers' feet and shoes. Protective socks include CarbonX socks and knit Nomex socks. CarbonX is an extremely durable material that resists extreme heat, direct flame and scalding liquids. It breathes well, has good flexibility and will not ignite or burn. Knit Nomex socks are very strong and durable. They resist cuts, abrasion, fire and temperatures up to 2,000 degrees Fahrenheit.
