Protective Hats & Head Coverings
Beekeeper's hoods and veils protect the wearer's head and neck from bee stings. A veil slips over a hat, while a hood consists of a hood or hat with a mesh front. When worn with a beekeeper's suit, beekeeper's hoods and veils provide full-body protection.
Chemical-resistant hoods protect against chemical splash, pathogens and particulates. They cover the shoulders, neck and most of the head and leave an opening for the face that can be covered and protected by goggles or full-face respirators. Chemical-resistant hoods are made of durable materials such as polyethylene, nylon on polyurethane and neoprene. Cold weather hoods and liners keep workers warm in cold temperatures. They cover the head and neck and leave the face or half of the face exposed. Liners can be worn under hard hats and other equipment. They are made of cotton or polyester. Hoods typically are thicker and are worn alone. They are made of poly fleece, polyester or cotton fleece and are brightly colored to enhance visibility. Some may have pockets that hold warming packs. Heat- and fire-resistant hoods and liners protect workers from extreme heat and flames. They cover the worker's head and neck and leave only the eyes exposed. Heat- and fire-resistant hoods are typically made of Nomex, which carbonizes when exposed to extreme heat to prevent burns. Nomex is more durable and flame-resistant than polyester blends and flame-retardant cotton. It also provides some chemical splash protection.
Hood and veil accessories include various protective items for durability and increased safety. Face veils are lightweight accessories ideal for cleanroom environments. Featuring a metal nose piece, face veils fasten via stainless steel snaps or an elastic headband. Hood inserts are made of foam to protect hood lenses during storage.
