Cables and cable lockout devices and systems lock out gate valves and circuit breaker panels to prevent accidental equipment start-up. Workers wind a cable through one or more valves or circuit breaker panels and secure it with a cable lockout hasp. They then lock their personal padlocks onto the hasp to indicate that work is in progress and the cable lockout device should not be removed. Cables typically are made out of strong steel covered with corrosion-resistant vinyl, while hasps are made out of durable thermoplastic.
